How to use Moving Box Lables

Efficiently Label Your Moving Boxes

Labeling your moving boxes with high quality moving box labels is a vital part of the packing process. In addition to being able to sort out which boxes belong to which room, you’ll be able to tell which items are in storage in case you need them or want them back in your home. Making sure your boxes are labeled properly will help you move efficiently and expedite the unpacking process. Follow these steps to make sure you are labeling your boxes clearly

Color Code Your Markers before Labeling Moving Boxes

While labeling moving boxes, there’s no such thing as too many permanent markers. Start off with at least five different colors to distinguish moving boxes apart, room by room. Make sure the ink is waterproof to prevent the ink from running in case of bad weather. Some of the different colors moving box labels may be used to identify rooms including

  • Red: Kitchen
  • Orange: Living Room
  • Yellow: Bathroom
  • Green: Bedroom
  • Blue: Storage
  • Purple: Office
  • Make sure to leave the proper marker in the right room so you don’t get them mixed up!

Where You Label Your Moving Box Matters

Moving box labels should be on the top and on at least two sides in large, clear print. If a box contains anything breakable, make sure the word FRAGILE is written on every side to prevent mishandling. In order to keep further track of your belongings, number each box in at least two corners. If you happen to have tape in several colors, you can put a piece on each side of the box to make sure it stands out. Cover each written label with a layer of clear packing tape to further protect it. Do not label on the bottom of the box or you might not be able to find it.

  • Mislabeling your moving boxes leads to headaches like
  • Build-up of frustration and stress
  • Wasted time and precious energy
  • Not being able to find your things when you need them the most
  • Increased likelihood of accidentally throwing away things you need.

Keep Your First Night Box Separate

The last things you should pack are essentials for your “first night box,” or what you’ll need for the first few days after the move. This box will not go in the truck or into storage, but in the car with you. Make sure the box is kept separate and is clearly labeled so you can keep track of it in storage. Also don’t overpack and keep it to the essentials like:

  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Pajamas
  • Shampoo and conditioner
  • Clothes for a few days
  • Towels
  • Linens for the bed
  • Nonperishable snacks
  • Batteries
  • Chargers
  • Medications
